March 10 2006, Tuesday, I started my day early. I woke up 3:30 morning to prepair my self going to Sampaloc Hospital at Sampaloc, Manila City. The bus rolled-up at exactly 5 am. While I was on the bus, I feel like something weird will happen to me. I arrived at Vicente Cruz street at around 5:45 am. There, I rode a jeepney where I saw my classmate (also my groupmate in the duty) and my Clinical Instructor. It was a 5 or maybe 10 minute ride, We arrived at the hospital around 6 am. It was only 4 of us got there early. While we're waiting for our the other two co-student-nurses, Our C.I. explained and toured us inside the ER. while she was giving some pointers, 2 of uor classmates arrived. Then we continue the tour. After a nice orientation on the ER room, We begin our duty and got our respected patients.. there are only 4 patientsin the ER at that time two of them have two student while two of them have only one student at there side, good thing our patient (a 67 year old female) is in her good condition already. She's nice to talk too.. Even her two daughters has a humorous minds to listen to our jokes. It was cool to be there at that time, all we have to do is to check her Vital Signs every 30 minutes. After the doctor gave her the permition to go home, we accompanied her and her 2 daughters outside the Hospital where a tricycle driver waiting for them. Before they leave, The patient who by the way we call "nanay" gave us a smile, wave of hand and with a very minimum voice saying a simple "thank you". We go back to the ER room with a high note and a smile while telling my partner a "what a nice job!".
Looking at the clock at the wall of the ER room... Time really flies. It was already 11 am. we are eagerly waiting for our C.I to say her Go signal for us to go home... while I was monitoring my new patient's vital signs, We are all supprized with the sudden opening of the ER door hearing it being slamed at a chair. We are all shock to see a Man on a bed accompanied by a recsue team, his daughter and two son. I feel the ER room's ambience changing from nice to being so serious and became so oblivion. The feeling was so wierd you can feel the your heart pumping so fast. I was shocked by then untill I heard my C.I. telling me to hold the ambubag. I holded the ambubag and started to pomp it to give the person on the bed a air. I saw the man's cyanotic face (the color is near purple). I heard the nurses screaming for some paraphernalias and a Doctor rushing to save a life. While I was pumping the ambubag, I saw my partner starting to gave a CPR every now and then, when my partner is exhausted, our C.I. change places with him. I heared his daughter screaming her cries... "Wake up papa! wake up!" while I his two son started to cry... I also sa handfull of persons staring at the door. While we are trying to revibe the man, The Doctor checked his eyes, a very swallen bloodshot eyes... with a constricted pupil, hard jaw and a zero cardiogram, I heared the Doctor sigh by this time i'm still pumping the ambubag while my partner still giving a CPR. The doctor pronounced the patient dead at exactly 11 o'clock. I paused for a while droped the ambubag and taked one or was it two steps backwards... my partner was shocked at the moment while im hearing his siblings crying loud... screaming papa.. papa.. papa..
While i'm sitting at the sari-sari store together with my partner and my two groupmates,I found my sels looking at the sky. There was a silence in all of us It's like someone snatch our voices out. Then my partner suddenly breaked the silence and said "Ganun talaga siguro pag first time... tara kain tayo alas dose na." That jump started our vives we eated like nothing happen... After lunch, we started to forget what had happen, and take it as a expirience. We started to walk along Lacson street and parted ways there...
